To commemorate the musical adaptation, we conducted a two-part cast interview. In Part 1, we spoke with Yui Kishina, who plays the protagonist Eva, about her feelings when she was cast, her impressions of the work and Eva, and the charm of Eva that can only be expressed through a musical.

This is a kingdom where spirit magic sustains people’s lives.Thanks to spirit magic, everyone lived a prosperous life. However, Eva, the daughter of Duke Kurojiku, was a “non-user”—completely unable to wield spirit magic. She was engaged to the Crown Prince, but he was secretly having an affair with Eva’s stepsister, Marti.
Through the schemes of the Crown Prince and Marti, Eva was framed for a crime she did not commit and forced to choose between exile or becoming Marti’s slave…!
Eva chose freedom and resolved to leave the country. Just as she was about to set out on her journey alone, Alan—a servant who secretly harbored feelings for her—appeared before her…
“I want to live as Eva in this world.”
—Please share your honest thoughts when you received the offer to play Eva in the musical *Spirit Miu*.
When I was first approached about the role, I felt a tremendous sense of anxiety, wondering, “Am I really the right person for this?” I felt the immense responsibility of portraying Eva—a character so cherished by fans of the original work, the author, and everyone involved in the production.But as I read the original work, I became increasingly drawn into the world of the story, and my desire to live as Eva within that world grew stronger. Furthermore, when I had the opportunity to meet the people involved in the original work during the photo shoot, I felt their deep love for the story, which made me even more determined. I am filled with the desire to give my all to this production.
“What a girl who knows how to love!”
—After reading the manga adaptation, what did you find most appealing about the character of Eva?
My first thought was, “What a girl who knows how to love so well.” No matter the situation, she never resents others or becomes bitter; instead, she pours her love into those around her while moving forward without compromising her convictions—it’s truly wonderful. I felt that it’s precisely because she’s this kind of person that those around her naturally want to support her and follow her lead.She’s not just kind—she also has real inner strength, which I find incredibly appealing. The more I read, the more I fell in love with her as a character.
“I really feel deep down that Eva is a truly perfectgirl…”
—As you prepare to portray Eva, what aspects do you hope to emphasize in your performance?
I want to focus on expressing the depth of Eva’s love and her unwavering inner strength, no matter the situation. I feel that her charm lies in how she radiates a warmth that envelops others while steadfastly sticking to what she believes in. At the same time, I’d love to convey that gentle, soothing presence—the kind that brightens the atmosphere just by being there. …Putting this into words like this, I’m truly struck by just how perfect Eva really is… While staying true to the original work’s worldview, I want to approach each moment with care so that the audience will think, “Eva on stage was wonderful, too.”

—Please tell us what you’re looking forward to and how motivated you feel about taking on this production through the medium of a musical.
I believe there are emotions and atmospheres that can only be conveyed through song, so I’m really looking forward to sharing this work’s gentle and warm world with everyone through the music.This is my first time appearing in a musical, so of course I have some anxiety and nerves. But more than that, I’m thrilled to take on this new challenge! Through song and acting, I’ll do my very best to faithfully express Eva’s feelings and deliver a production that will leave a lasting impression on everyone who comes to see it.
“While cherishing the world you’ve all come to love”
—Please share a message for readers of the original work and fans looking forward to the performance.
Since this is the first time this cherished work is being adapted for the stage, I imagine some fans of the original work are looking forward to it, while others may feel a bit anxious. I feel truly honored to be able to play the role of Eva in such a special production.I will approach this role with sincerity and dedication to preserve the world you’ve all come to love, while fully conveying the unique charm that can only be experienced on stage. I’ll do my best to ensure that not only fans of the original work, but also those experiencing this story for the first time and everyone who has always supported us, will feel that “it was worth coming to see the show,” so please look forward to it.
